24-hour crisis line:
(574) 289-HELP

If you are victimized:

  • Call 911 if you are in immediate danger.

  • If you are not in immediate danger, call the S-O-S 24-Hour Crisis Line at
    (574) 289-HELP,
. An S-O-S volunteer Advocate is available around the clock to help you make an informed decision about your course of action and to provide emotional support for you, your family and your friends.

  • SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION WITHOUT DELAY! The emergency room of any local hospital can provide 24-hour treatment for visible or internal injuries, possible STD infection or pregnancy. It is wise to seek medical care even if you choose not to file a police report. Delays in medical care may complicate any injury you have. An S-O-S volunteer Advocate can be with you at the emergency department to offer emotional support for you and your significant others.

  • Do not destroy evidence. Time is important - act immediately! If you have been sexually assaulted, do not wash, douche, wipe, drink, eat, smoke, chew gum, gargle, brush your teeth, change clothes or throw your clothes away. Take a change of clothes to the hospital with you.

  • Follow-up. If you have been sexually assaulted, it is important to have a follow-up exam for STDs and pregnancy 2-6 weeks after the assault, and for HIV 3-6 months after the assault. Your doctor will advise you.

  • Seek support and/or counseling. Don't try to go through it alone. Help can be informal - a good friend who listens - or can include individual and/or group counseling offered at S-O-S. Your significant others (friends, family, spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend) may also need help dealing with the assault.

  • Remember - Needing help is not a sign of weakness!
